100 years old

I was told this was a outlet cover but I didn't think they had them way back then. Love the 1915 date !

I like stuff with patent dates on them. Kind of strikes up an "americana" vintage type feel

I agree ! The pin was still in place too. I don't know how that managed to stay in but it did.

Did they make telescope lense covers (flip down) back then? What is the diameter?

It's 1 1/2" inches diam.

Looks like a pipe cover. Possibly for irrigation piping, or rain piping? I found one of those just yesterday in the ground at a muni park (not exactly the same), still connected to the pipe. It clearly was designed to simply keep rodents and stuff OUT of the pipe, while allowing the water to freely run out.

That's my guess, anyway. I'd not seen one before. I simply laid the sod back down, and thought it was an interesting experience... Funny that it showed up today on the forum. :0)

Seems like Skippy is onto something...I'd go for that answer myself but it could be an outlet cover too.

I do remember back when I was a kid in the 70's-80's that we had the little plastic covers on every outlet in our house...all of our relatives and friends had them too...even if they had no children. I rarely see them anymore.

Perhaps back in the day is was a popular thing to have the outlets covered?

Hmm, that's an interesting concept. I was at a very old house way out in the country where an outbuilding used to sit but is no longer. I may do some more research... thanks for the input !
