- Whites Prism IV / Bullseye II pinpointer
Hi gang ! What a great hunt I had today! I got a day off from work and thought I would go detecting at a park I discovered recently in a neighboring town. The weather didn't seem to be accommodating me this morning though, overcast, cold and threatening rain at any moment. "Oh well." I thought. "I might as well take my ailing Bullseye II in to the dealer to get it looked at." My Bullseye's tiny little 'vibration' motor had come loose from it's mounting on the circuit board again. I re soldered it back in place once before but I must not have done a very good job, because it was loose again. Perhaps the guys at my dealer's shop can do a better job? That was my thinking anyway as I drove to the store. Upon hearing my story and looking at my Bullseye, my dealer called his Whites distributor who told him to simply replace it.
TOO COOL! I mean, my Bullseye still works fine, in "audible" mode, but it's a bit wearing to have to keep taking off my headphones to hear the beep when pin pointing a target.. tiresome I tell you, but it still functioned just fine. I told my dealer that before he called his distributor. A brand new unit. Not only new but a step up! I had a Bullseye II 120mm, the replacement is the Bullseye 140mm. And it works fine! After exchanging my pin pointer I thought I might as well drive to the park I had my eye on and see if I could get in some swing time before it rained, if it rained.
My drive to the park was peppered with a sprinkle here and there along the way, only once did I have to turn on my wipers though. When I got to the park it was just after 3:00PM.. and the park was virtually empty. I thought that after school let out there might be a bit of a crowd, you know, baseball games, or soccer or whatever, but a crowd there wasn't. Better and better! After parking my truck and gearing up, including the new Bullseye, I set my sights on a hillside facing the huge stone and concrete outdoor stage. I figured that this would be a good place to look for pocket spills and the like, where people would be sitting in lawn chairs, camp chairs, blankets or simply sitting in the grass watching events or listening to concerts held in the park.
After about the 30th target, of which at least 20 were coins, I lost count. It was just one target after another as I "mowed the lawn" loosely grid searching the hillside. Of course I found lots of pull tabs and bottle caps, the occasional "can slaw" and other junk metal, but I found a BUNCH of coins too. Before I knew it, it was approaching 5:00PM and I had to call a halt to my search. Time to drive home.. and make dinner.. after all it was my day off and my turn to make dinner for me and my wife. <smile>
I knew she'd get at least one smile from today's hunt. I found one little gold stud earring. It had to be a pocket spill too, as the back was still on it. Not many earrings are lost with their backs on them unless they were NOT in the loser's (grin) ear when lost. Dinner was involved and evolved when I got home. I found that my mother in law was joining us for dinner as well. Ok.. so I cook the chicken AND the pork chops on the grill. NOT that my M.I.L. is a big eater or anything <laughing> but I usually cook more than one "meal" when I fire up the grill. I take leftovers to work for my lunches. Ahhhh.. there's a method to my madness! Or at least a reason for the seasoning. <grin>
It wasn't till the dirty dishes had been loaded into the dishwasher and all the leftovers had been put away that I emptied out my finds bag and tallied up my finds for today's hunt. WOW! I found over100 coins in less than 2 hours!.. and that's not counting all the trash metal and other objects. Including a single 1957 Wheat penny that didn't make it into the pictures. One lone little gold earring, I'm pretty sure it's gold, even though it's too small to see a stamp or even HAVE a stamp on it.<shrug> I was happy with my finds. All told, $6.32 in clad..not counting the single wheatie.
Maybe I should have taken pictures of my grilled chicken and chops too.. <smile> Nahh.. that's ok.. my mother in law, my wife and I saw them.. before they were devoured.. or most of it was anyway. Besides.. pictures like that would cost you guys! All that salivating would ruin your keyboards and you'd all be pi**ed at me for showing the pics to you. <laughing>
