I always dig 40's on my AT Pro. Great job!

Yes low 40s and altho not guaranteed
It's a sweet sound. ...
Clean sound but you do have to dig bottle caps and a lot of crap to get to the good stuff
Persistent pays off at the end
Good luck to u

I too am curious regarding the "sound". I have dug a few gold rings and they have all come in 50 to 53 range. However the sound has been a high tone. All the solid signals I have dug lower than that have been trash and it's been the tone that is different. The tone has been low or medium and not that higher "sweet" tone of the gold rings I have dug. Where i hunt there are tons of solid 40's 41's, etc... and all of those I have dug have been low tone and trash. So my question here is the tone the true indicator of a gold target with the AT Pro?

You shouldn't get a high tone until you are in the low 70s...50s are a mid tone on the AT pro, always...air test some gold rings or a nickel and let us know what tone you get...there could have been things around the gold rings in the ground that made the tones high...air test will let you know that its reading targets correctly.

So what your saying...it could be masking off of some other type of alloy. ... making the tone higher correct?
Good info
Thanks

OK I did a test where I laid out a number of targets in my yard and passed the coil over them. I think I have found a problem with the unit. As we know, there are supposed to be 3 tones on this machine. For low conducting ferrous targets like iron nails I get the low "grunt". However for targets above that I get the same high tones. For example a 10K gold ring which is coming in at 53 gives me the same high tone as a silver coin registering at 85. I was running this in Pro Mode with no discrim. When I switch over to standard mode it is the same except I get the "bell tone" on all targets over 50. From 50 and up it is the same bell tone, even on junk targets like pull tabs and screw caps. My understanding is that there are supposed to be 3 distinct tones and I am only getting 2 as there does not appear to be any "mid tone". Thoughts?

Congrats on lovely gold ring! :headbang: One of my two heavy gold rings was lying masked under a corroded old spoon and had been missed by many detectorists before me who must've assumed it was junk under the sand! The ring had been on that popular detecting beach for decades and was covered with a thin skin of iron from nearby large underground iron. My machine is simpler than your AT Pro, but I advise digging all signals, unless time is a factor in a hunt. When time's a factor, I screen out most iron & junk. Have fun! Andi
