Good 2.5 hour hunt in the old city park today that was built in the 1890s. I have been hunting this particular part of the wooded area for over a decade and when I first started hunting there it was not uncommon to pull silver out of the heavily trashy soil. Nowadays, good targets are fewer but there are still a few diamonds in the rough. Today the mission was finding gold as I have previously pulled 3 gold rings from this area, so lots of digging foil and other targets in the low ID range. The 2nd target of the day was the small foreign coin (can't read the date yet). My 3rd or 4th target was GOLD! Looks like part of a class ring dated 1943 and stamped 10k.
Other finds included a 1903 V nickel and an 1891 IHP. The IHP was very shallow, right at the base of a small tree.
There appears to have been a small bottle dump at some point 30-40 years ago as there was a good sized area that was full of broken glass and broken bottlenecks with caps on them. After years of skipping this, today I really cleaned it out, hence the bag of trash!
Also found a baggie with syringe caps and some foil packets of antibiotic ointment. No actual syringes were seen, but always be aware of where you stick your hands when digging.
