Congrats on the finds fellow Winchester, Virginian!!! What type of bullet is that next to the Gardener? It looks different then a 3 ringer. I like the dog tags.

Thanks man! The larger bullet is a .69 Belgian.. also Confederate. First trip this fall and I think I may have stumbled into something. Only out about 2hrs because it was Thanksgiving. Going back for the day next week.

Awesome!!, I think my cousin has found two of those .69 cal bullets at our lot. Must have been a couple guys up this way with that type of gun?

Congrats on those finds. Yeah, I have only found 2 .69 caliber bullets in winchester. Are they more rare to find around Winchester, or are they just in certain areas?

Nice finds! That shell is cool, I'd hit that spot hard.

cool exploded shell.

Actually these came from Fauquier Co near Warrenton. I grew up there and thats where I do most of my hunting. I've found a ton of .69s there.. Belgians, Carcanos, Gardners and Yankee 3-ringers. I just finished a book on the Petersburg siege and it spoke of the reserve troops being equipped with Belgian rifles. I don't know if they fired these bullets exclusively or not. I understand that Europeans mixed zinc with lead when manufacturing minies and thats why their bullets don't oxidize like ours.

Sweet finds! Nicely done.

All the best,

Lanny

Great finds! The ground-burst Parrott is first rate. Those figural dog tags from the 20s are cool. I dug one years ago in Virginia.

Cheers,

Buckles

Cool ground burst!
