What is the benefit of using the 12.5 in coil on my gti2500?

Depth & coverage, on a good, clean tract of land. If the site is trashy, then you'll be better off with a small sniper coil.
Basic rule, the larger the coil, the deeper it will detect and the faster you can cover a good piece of property.
BUT, if there is much trash, the large coil will detect the trash that may be next to something good like a coin. The coin may never be seen by that coil.
If you have a trashy site, go with a small coil.
