Re: 1715 Beach Report -3rd day out.
Two pictures of Rio Mar wreck area. 1st one is taken from top of beach walkover looking to the right. Thats my son in the picture. You can see the tops of one of the reefs. Second shot is also looking to the left of the beach walkover. Just at the point where the limb of the bush on the right is in line with sand is where there is a 75 foot section of beach that juts out with a reef about 20 feet from shore. The wreck is in line with that about 900 feet offshore.
Report on my 3rd Day goes as follows. Went to Rio Mar area at super low tide. The first reef was sticking high out of the water. Anyway, there was a nice size extension to the beach right in front of the first reef. I assume because the reef was there and maybe 20 feet from shore that it caused less beach errosion on that spot and so the beach had an area maybe 75 feet in length that stuck out further than the rest of the beach. Anyway, I searched this area more than other but, to no avail. I found nothing at Rio Mar wrecksite. I did speak to a scuba diver that came out of the water who said the wreck site looked quite nice. There doesnt look to be as much beach renourishment here. One can see the two different colored sands where the old yellow darker colored sand meets the new light colored sand. I did find $ 1.05 in change under the destroyed beach entrance stairs that is now in the middle of the beach just between the two hurricane destroyed hotels. But, Not one cob. All I wanted was to find just one. But, "Todays Not the Day!". Went to the Mel Fisher museum in the afternoon. Nice stuff.
Will be hitting Ambersand beach entrance tomorrow for my last day here. I figure this time, instead of going left from the entrance to the Cabin site, Ill turn right and walk the distance to Wabasso and see if anything pops up. Oh well, sorry for the bad report. It does not look promising at all until a good chunk of that new sand gets erroded from a storm or two.
