Whack (ok, TAP) it a few times with a ball-peen hammer and see what happens. <CAUTION use at your own risk! > but it could speed up the identification time a lot!

I will uncover a small section to connect the negative lead.
But that's all.
I don't want to wind up finding out what it was.

What I thought as soon as I seen it.

I can't tell you all that went through my head when I heard that high pitched and loud of a hit in the area I was in...because of a couple other recent finds right in that small area I was already on high alert.
A small bend in the shoreline coupled with a low spot on the beach spooned out a nice little area I could tell I was down to old material.
