Hi All,
Headed to the site I've been hitting almost daily for over a year.
It's like a new spot when using headphones.
Best Find: Carlos III 1760s half Real, 'Vitra Unum 176?' and pillar still visible. :hello2:
nothing but recovery scratches on obverse, you can see the coarse sharp gravel this came from on the crusty copper.

"Two faces if the globe between the Pillars of Hercules at the Straits of Gibraltar with 'plus vltra'(more beyond) was spanish saying they owned the world. Two Globes. Coin used around the world. U.S. legal tender until 1857. VTRAQUE VNUM CARLO HISPAN ET IND REX VTRA QUE"

got a merc, and a crusty coin I had high hopes for,
nothin there, probably a Brit halfpenny.
got another crown cap, a .61 ringer, a .40 round with no primer evident, rimfire ?
a stripper with spent casing, 3 different caliber balls, a .43 rifle round.
some kind of brass counting machine,
And a lot of other targets I have swung over before.
Love those headphones.
thanks for looking & HH to all :hello:
Nice to wake up & find your coin looking better than the night before ! pic # 11

Re: Headphones yield finds! 1760s Half Reale

Tiny button w backmark, 18th & 19th century style fishing jigs & some other old buttons, one with a lot of thick gold plate.
and a square hinged cover thingy.
Figured I throw this last pic in, note why I thought the other 'Crusty' was going to be an 8 Reale. (the 4 reale in folder was as crusty as the other piece, which turned out to be a lead slug, I waited to get home to clear the crust)
It extends the excitement, NH has a scratch ticket, out of 90 million tickets, 4 are
$1 million dollar instant winners. When I get a winner, I leave the amount won covered for as long as I can stand (personal record: 72 hours!) :tongue3:
Also when you are hiking the forest, watch out for those wellholes :o
This one barely visible in the middle of a snowmelt stream.
Sweet Mountain water, makes me thirsty just looking!
Happy & safe hunting to All

Re: Headphones yield finds! 1760s Half Reale

Wow, the condition of stuff out of those flats can vary quite a bit. Amazing how you find things from so many different centuries.

I did not use headphones for many years until I got my F75 four years ago. I did quite well without them, but if you want to hear EVERYTHING, you got to use the 'phones!

yo S

From the land of the Bluenose.....nice looking stuff and congrats on the Spanish. Looks as if you were hunting near water by the blachened coins.

Re: Headphones yield finds! 1760s Half Reale

your hunts are always productive but it seems to me the headphones are helping you get more coins ...esp. like the Spanish :o keep em on they also knock out back ground noise and make great ear muffs when it's cold 8) 8) Well Done !!! :headbang: 8) CMD

Re: Headphones yield finds! 1760s Half Reale

That was a great hunt Herbie and congrats on the old Reale, Quindy.

Re: Headphones yield finds! 1760s Half Reale

Congrats on the half real! and you said you didn't find many silver coins!!

Re: Headphones yield finds! 1760s Half Reale

Great finds. Always enjoy your post. I would put the counter over in the what is it section they will love it.

Re: Headphones yield finds! 1760s Half Reale

Cool finds, congrats!

Steel:

The half reales, are silver 917, from Carlos III, normally minted in the Indias (mexico...)

I would love to see some pics if you clean it

Congratulations!

Thanks All !
Testing123, I still would be walking past the silver if you hadn't tipped me on the Etrac settings.
Nutria, this is as good as the coin will get ::)
Leslie, the old boatyards give up many good finds, Most are toast, but occasionally you get lucky. Gold holds up especially well ;D , it's worth finding them & hunting.
I check every odd rockpile I see on the tidal rivers.
Quindy, do you have any info on the .61 slug or the .40 round ?
The slug is the 3rd of this type i've dug here, I assume it's CW era, though saltwater usually leaves no patina. I am most interested in the rimfire .40,
also the stripper & case, case stamped RA 18, believe .308 cal, it's bent, hard to tell.
Ra 18 = WWI ? what era were 'strippers' popular? Thanks :hello:
TNMountains, That's just what I was thinking, Look for whatsit post !
HH All

Good digs Herbie. :icon_thumleft:

Great find Herbie,Milled Pillars are always a good find, I think I've only found a half of one real from that era of pillars,& a hole one of the later type.Good Deal Buddy. Headphones never leave home with out them. :laughing7: I bet you are like in a new site wearing them,I can't do nothing with out mine around the water like you hunt to much back ground noise all around but they'll get hot to wear this summer I've had to take mine off sometimes three or four times just from filling them full of sweat. :D
Take Care,
&
Continue on your way! :headbang:
Pete, :hello:

Very nice....Very nice! :headbang:

WTG, :icon_thumright:
So what was there? a small town? swimming hole? and how big an area did you find these in.
Man, one day I hope to find a money pit
Cheers

Great digs man! What are your E-Trac settings? I do great on the relics and coppers but have a hell of a time finding silver. Don't know if I'm missing it or it's not there.

Very cool finds there Herbie! :notworthy:

These two pieces are really interesting . . . can you tell me what they are? :icon_scratch:

Talk to you soon,
Dave

Greetings Crazyslasher,
I had the same issue. no silver.
I hunted one day with another etrac user, had mine set for combined coin & jewelery.(which is the same as coin or jewelery as far as I can see from the screen).
He pulled out a morgan dollar coin, waved it under my coil and it nulled! I was shocked :o
now I use the quickmask setting at about 20, with multiple tones,
and sensitivity maxed out manual, digging all repeatable targets.
(those low tones can be some of the best)
Thanks Testing123
it makes the top 2/3rds of your screen wide open.
I hunt fairly trash free sites, these settings will be confusing in trashy spots,
raise the quickmask screen if your getting too many signals.
for iron filled areas, look up how to use two tone ferrous settings
here, works great once you get used to it, lets you pluck the goodies from iron fields, thanks Goes4ever.

Hello Dave,
Still working on Id for the counter. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,393664.0.html
The other piece is a 'Crown Cap' used on perfume & apothecaries maybe 1850-1920?
have recovered several of these in various sizes.
best one from a junk shop, still full of perfume, Lalique glass, different designs on both sides. price $1.
Found an exact match on Xbay, with box: (seller has since lowered the price somewhat)

Good Day, Herbie.

Thanks. I actually run an almost totally open screen and I dig every target, so I don't think I'm missing anything. I do use two-tone ferrous after my initial grid over an area. I don't think I'm missing anything, I do think that my area is very competitive and a lot of the more shallow silver at the sites I hit have been scoffed up. I'd say my average good find is usually around 7-8 inches and in odd positions, easy to miss stuff. During the winter I was cleaning my E-Trac and I think I switched it from Multi to 4 tone by mistake. I just realized last week that I've been using 4 tone instead of multi and when I went to switch back I hated multi. I run my sensitivity at max most of the time and I find 4 tone to be a little easier at distinguishing target, a bit cleaner sounding. And, since I dig every target, I don't think it really matters.
