I was out hunting a old home site Yesterday,and I found a Irish Half Penn,Date 1766.

I just rinsted it under water and i tried to wipe some of the deart off. I don't no how you would clean a coin like this?

BOY, There is ALOT of detail left on that coin. I would contact Don In SJ for his advice on this one.

first of all...DON'T rub ANY of the dirt off...get advice on cleaning it from the people in this forum. Don't try it anymore...

Priscilla,

That is a phenominal find!!! I found a later date Irish Halfpenny (177?) back in February, which is counterfeit. Yours may be as well, Don will be able to help you identify it better.

In any case, congratulations on your terrific colonial copper!

Nice one, can't wait to dig a couple of old georgies.

Looks like it might be a cast counterfeit.
 

WTG on finding the Irish Halfpenny, not too shappy shape either! Not sure if it is a Regal that just did not hold up well or a cast counterfeit, but here is a website with nice photos of the Irish series or coins and the one for KGIII just happens to be a beautiful example of a 1766. :thumbsup:
