The ground is frozen solid so I went for a walk at a field local to me and eyeballed this Irish evasion token...Gregory III evasion token! Not bad for not having a detector!

Gotta like old copper in Feb.!

Sweet find, congratulations! :occasion14:

very cool find, great eyes too

Good eye there.

Awesome. This is the week of eyeball finds.

Thanks! I think it is an Atkins 355. Reverse BEL * ONA. My book also has the date as 1777 but it may actually be 1771.

Here's one of the variety -

Yeah I was going by list alone. Looks like 1771 for sure, but notice the 1s and 7s appear to be different sizes which seems sort of odd if the same number punch was used. Also note the little interesting out of place G at the bottom. I skimmed through JR's auction but didn't see that mentioned so don't know if it means anything.

Nice little winter find buddy. Well done

Good eye on the copper, really nice bonus in the throws of winter.

Someone must have made the decision post-Atkins that 1771 was a more accurate choice even given that the digits may not be quite following the rules. I didn't notice the G until you pointed it out. Other evasions have initials under the bust similarly though this one wasn't mentioned in my book -but the book I have is just a one chapter basic listing.

Counterfeit book should be out this month :icon_thumleft: Evasions won't be covered but some of the more important families will.

That's a super cool eyeballed find in the middle of the winter!
