Where to begin.
A site that I was given permission to hunt, but had never seen.
The owner, A retired Mennonite gentleman, took me to a
supposedly colonial home site. His grandfather told him that
the site was the FIRST home in the area back in colonial
times.
When we got out of the truck, I saw nothing. No foundation,
no clearing, no NOTHING!!! He walked me over to an area and
proceeded to tel me that these stones were once a foundation,
or so he was told. Things did not look promising.
I thanked him for the permission and decided to check it out
a little before I brought the gang in to hunt.
Turn on detector, balance, hunt, iron, iron, pottery and china
shard, MMMMM, maybe there was hope for this site.
Then it hit, solid 75 to 82 on the VDI. That usually means
quarter, copper, or the right configuration of aluminum can.
reading at 4.5 inches down, I got the shovel and.......Clunk!!!
Stone, try the other side, Clunk!!! more stone. everywhere stone.
So I took my knife and scraped the grass off of the stone and
found a walkway of stones. A LITTLE excitement come on.
I pulled up the first stone.....the second......the third, and there
was my copper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It must have fallen in the cracks a few
years ago and sat there waiting for me.
I couldn't tell what exactly it was, but it was copper!!!
I jumped in the truck and headed home to CAREFULLY
clean my prize.
Anyway, after cleaning and 15 phone calls to Civilman, we ID'd
it as a 1781 George III Hibernia half penny!!!!
MAN, AM I PSYCHED!!!!!
Mine looks better than scan. I'll get my camera going, and take better photos.
Thanks for looking.

These last two photos are what the coin SHOULD look like.
