Long live the president! 1789 George Washington inaugural button.
It was rough swinging with the overgrowth, but it sure paid off. Now I've got no choice but to go back and dive right into that brush. :laughing7:
The button variety appears to be a WI 11B from Albert's button book.

congrats on your 1st GW.welcome to the club!

Agree, makes it harder and harder for them to make banner. Are they really that rare? I've been led to believe so.

Are they really that rare? Hmmmmm? :icon_scratch:???:icon_scratch: Yes, about $6K rare to the right buyer. This auction was a few years ago. There must have been two bidders going at each other to take home this GWI button.

Dust Eater - Awesome finds and congrats! :icon_thumleft:

The valuable stuff mostly survived, the buttons ended up in the ground thus why the colonial gold and silver relics are the best finds imo. Maybe not the most valuable but the best finds

I've found three silver coins from the 1700's and two silver plated shoe buckles. I'd gladly trade all of them for one GW button. The coins and buckles are cool, but the GW buttons are part of U.S. history. They were worn to honor the first president of our country, which makes them a very special find for anyone lucky enough to dig one up.

I would too but I wouldnt trade a solid silver buckle, gold posy ring or my silver pomander for a GW button unless It was a rare variety in saleable condition and I needed the money

Yes, they're still very rare. There are currently only 8 GW inaugural buttons for sale on Ebay. By comparison, there are 851 capped bust half dimes for sale on eBay right now. If you base it on eBay lisitings only, that makes them 106 times rarer than a capped bust half dime...

Only eight? That is a huge number!

Looks like you've hired yourself out as a lawnmower!

BIG congrats! That button is sharp, stark, and beautiful!
