UPDATE, from DON OF SOUTH JERSEY, THIS COIN IS A 1794 LIBRARY CAP, THE DATE PLAYED TRICKS ON US!!!few hours to kill this afternoon so I stopped by this 1719 house where ive never had much. I pulled a few buttons out last fall but I figured I'd give it a shot.
(BOY, IAM SURE GLAD I DID)
The ground just lite up with targets,
First coin was the kg111, then i got the barber dime..Was hoping for older silver, but hey its silver.
Then i dug a few buttons, The sportsmen button with the dog on it I really like! Then came the chocolate tweezers. .That the second pair to come from this site.
Then it happen, I was walking down the side of the house and i get this weak signal, so i started playing with the detector changing some settings to see if i could get a better hit on it..
I was able to clean up the signal some, but not TID reading..
But it was that high wispering tone that you just love!!!!
Dug down about 9inch a bam!!!!
This green disc comes out..
I pick it up, and right away i know its a capped bust by the thickness. .
I say come on chain cent. (NOPE)
Not it..lol.
Anyway i was still really happy..
I wiped it a little bit in the field, and thought i seen 94..
So i checked the side for the leaf,
Hoping the leaf was down to make it the 93 head...
Didn't know it was much better.
After a bath in distilled water, followed by a mineral oil bath..
Yes!!!!! Its a 1793 CAPPED BUST..
My first one.
I have found 1793 half cent before, and 2 1794 Large cents..But the 93 has eluded in till today.
If you could not tell..
Iam a happy man...
Thanks for looking, and sorry about this long winded post..
Just really wanted to share this with you guys.
My wife just dont get it...lol.
Ps, i had to take a pick of the house just to show how cool it it..
George

First off, any dug Liberty Cap large cent is a super find, and a major congrats to the OP! Looks like a truly great site.

I have something to add that might not make me too popular, though. I am surprised nobody has mentioned yet that the large cent does not have the right head style for a 1793 Lib. Cap. At a glance, it appears to be a 1794, Sheldon-31. The last digit certainly looks like a "3", but it's badly corroded, and that head style is most definitely from 1794. The forked curl to the left of the "1" is a tipoff that it might be Sheldon-31. Can someone else who's adept at early copper attributions confirm?

Rhedden,
Making an informed observation on this forum will never make you unpopular. In fact it will gain you a lot of respect. The great thing about people like Vino is that they are open to these kinds of observations and care more about knowing exactly what they have and not what people may believe they have. I think there's more work to be done on this Id. Somebody on here will def figure it out. Still a very nice find

Hey Rhedden..
Thanks for that info..
I will look into it..
As far as the curl, it definitely has the 93 curl i have 2 94s one with the 93 head and one with the 94 head..
So the only question is, the 93 bust has a beaded edge, and this one does not...
Iam almost certain that it is a 93 head just not sure if it is the true 1793 liberty cap..
I found the s19a last year..
But this one does have me a little perplexed, because the date is clear as day...lol
Thanks again

Vino Vino Vino. What a fantastic find. Definitely banner. Can't wait to read Abe's review of your skill at MDing

There are only a few varieties of 1793 Cap, so one thing you could do is just look them up online and match them to your coin. All have beaded borders, I believe. If still in doubt, there's always PCGS or NGC to make a decision for you... in exchange for about $40-50 of costs, of course!

The only Cap cent I ever dug had a barely visible outline of the head and no date. It was in Poor condition before it was even lost in the dirt. I always wanted to dig an excellent one, but after I moved to Texas, that possibility went right down the drain.

George,

I can't seem to find any of the Varieties to match your' latest 1793 Liberty Cap Cent find! I wonder and would hope beyond all possibilities for you, that it could possibly be an NC-6 Variety of which I cannot find a single pic or maybe an even previously unknown Variety. Since I believe that Bowers & Merena Rare Coins sold one of the elusive and beyond extremely rare NC-6 Varieties, you should contact the folks with Stacks & Bowers (Bowers & Merena merged with Stacks in 2011, I believe) to see if your' coin could possibly be an NC-6 or a previously unknown Variety. I would hate for you to take the coin to some experts and be hoodooed into selling it as one thing (told it is a lesser rare Variety) and it turns out to be another (i.e. an NC-6 or previously unknown Variety)! Heritage Auctions is another option but the experts from the former Bowers & Merena Rare Coins would be my first choice in who to contact. Of course, there is always PCGS and if they are unsure, they will find out. If you happened to send it to PCGS, just make sure that you also pay for the Attribution Services, otherwise the coin may only be Certified and Graded or Detail Graded with no Variety noted on the holder's label.

Thanks for the info Frank

I have a good friend that owns a coin shop. Stacks flies him down to help out on occasion and he's got some good contacts there. I will stop and see him today. I hope this thing is rare as hell
