UPDATE, from DON OF SOUTH JERSEY, THIS COIN IS A 1794 LIBRARY CAP, THE DATE PLAYED TRICKS ON US!!!few hours to kill this afternoon so I stopped by this 1719 house where ive never had much. I pulled a few buttons out last fall but I figured I'd give it a shot.
(BOY, IAM SURE GLAD I DID)
The ground just lite up with targets,
First coin was the kg111, then i got the barber dime..Was hoping for older silver, but hey its silver.
Then i dug a few buttons, The sportsmen button with the dog on it I really like! Then came the chocolate tweezers. .That the second pair to come from this site.
Then it happen, I was walking down the side of the house and i get this weak signal, so i started playing with the detector changing some settings to see if i could get a better hit on it..
I was able to clean up the signal some, but not TID reading..
But it was that high wispering tone that you just love!!!!
Dug down about 9inch a bam!!!!
This green disc comes out..
I pick it up, and right away i know its a capped bust by the thickness. .
I say come on chain cent. (NOPE)
Not it..lol.
Anyway i was still really happy..
I wiped it a little bit in the field, and thought i seen 94..
So i checked the side for the leaf,
Hoping the leaf was down to make it the 93 head...
Didn't know it was much better.
After a bath in distilled water, followed by a mineral oil bath..
Yes!!!!! Its a 1793 CAPPED BUST..
My first one.
I have found 1793 half cent before, and 2 1794 Large cents..But the 93 has eluded in till today.
If you could not tell..
Iam a happy man...
Thanks for looking, and sorry about this long winded post..
Just really wanted to share this with you guys.
My wife just dont get it...lol.
Ps, i had to take a pick of the house just to show how cool it it..
George

My man! My man! My man! I am beyond happy for you buddy and I know that this could not have come at a better time.,I know you were in a bit of a rut and needed to get over a good one. It's amazing to see you pull another very scarce copper out of the dirt. A find like that will get you back in the groove in a hurry and carry that momentum for a long time. I know you'll pull that chain cent someday and then you will have found about all of the super early LCS and half cents out there. No doubt Banner and still a decent amount of detail on that bad boy. Congrats my friend
So did u vote banner? Huh Abe?! Lol. It's amazing what old George pulls up every now and then. I could go on and on writing what a good detectorist George is..........

Why has this not been voted a banner find yet?

Awesome finds! I love that old copper! Capped bust is still on my bucket list, I really think that dog button is cool also, Congratulations!

Thanks Abe.
I was starting to wonder if last year was just a fluke..
But I geuss if we keep putting are selves on promising sites you never know what will pop up??
Its the stuff you never think you can find that is awsome.
Glad iam able to share this with you guys..

I knew you were excited about that site George, and now I can see why. That's an amazing find - the holy grail of large cents in my book. I'm sure this will motivate you to make more killer recoveries there. Congrats again, and good luck!

Thanks Bill..
You are definitely my inspiration, to go and find killer sites like you find..

Congrats on the copper, digging an old low mintage at that.

So what is the plan for the copper?

Thanks Pepper!!!
Plan? Just a long bath in oil, and then right in my collection. .
I sold 1 coin last year and i regret every minute of it. .
George

The coppers this year have been exceptional so far; yours is right up there with the rest, maybe a little above!
Very well done!

Thanks IH..

UH OH ABE!!!! I truly look forward to reading your short story about George and his metal detecting prowess!

George!!! A very hearty and heartfelt congratulations to you on this amazing find. You know I don't know much about coins this old but looking in my redbook it is obvious it is a very rare and very valuable coin. Congratulations my friend. My banner vote is in.

Thanks Beez. .
Iam going to let him off the hook. .lol

George... Maybe you could do the owner of the home a favor and cut the grass really short! If a decent rain comes shortly thereafter and after it soaks in and the grass dries a little bit, that would be a great time to go over the property again. The ionization halo effect that long buried coins develop is often enhanced when the soil is at least slightly damp! Maybe you could take both the XP Deus and the CTX 3030 and see what one or both might hit on that has been hiding under that thick and 5 to 6 inch tall grass. You might want to pay very special attention to areas around the chimney, the porches, the walkways and any large old trees. Maybe that Chain Cent or even another 1793 Liberty Cap Cent is still there and waiting for you to bring them back into the light of day!

Good luck!

Frank

That's nice of you. The good karma from such a deed will surely result in a willow tree shilling for you George. Lol

Awesome finds! Well you finally got one! Congrats!

Outstanding! 1793 Capped Bust large cents are rare. Your piece was a very high grade when lost and all things considered, after being in the ground for over 200 years it's not bad. Definitely a banner find.

Thanks Don..
Not to bad of shape..
You always wish they were better..lol
