Got out to the “hunted out” colonial site where I dug the 8 reale and the KGIII Half Penny years ago and got a few flat buttons and a thimble. Then, as the sun set and the dark was creeping in, I walked back to the car. On the way back right by the road I got a repeating 84 on my AT Pro and had my fingers crossed for another silver coin instead of a stupid modern penny. Popped the plug and had a little trouble finding it because it was such a big signal. Found the coin and wiped off the face and back but couldn’t make anything out on it. I knew it was old and it was a thick coin. Figured it was a large cent since it was so thick. Got home and started cleaning it when I saw the “1794” and knew I had something good. So here it is! 2019 has started off with a bang!

Any tips on getting the green crud off without damaging this coin? Thanks!

That is a beautiful coin find. I'm not sure about the thick verdigris, but the rest of the green patina is fantastic. I'm giving you a banner vote on this find.

Beautiful LC, my favorite old copper type...congrats! :occasion14:

Beautiful old girl. Congrats on a helluva find!

Nice work! 🙌 I don't think I'd do anything more than toothpick that beauty a little bit.

That is what i would love to find, nice bucket lister

you can tell it was in near mint condition when it was lost. That's a really nice one. congrats!

Wow that is one sweet find! Congratulations....:icon_thumright: I'm not sure if I would take a chance in cleaning it as you may do more damage than good.

Beautiful! Maybe an olive oil soak and a toothpick...nothing more than that

Great find, Congrats!!!

That's a sweet coin I need one of those myself Well done!!

That's a nice one!

Are you going to try to do any cleaning on it or leave her as she was found?

I’m probably just going to leave it as is. I got all the dirt off but don’t want to damage the patina. Wish I could get that green crud off but it’s on there pretty good. Thanks everybody! It was definitely a surprise for me haha. I’ve walked over that place a million times but this was right near where I park the truck.

I like to leave em unless they are toast!!!!

I would probably have that one professionally conserved , I think you have a high grade coin that is worthy of the expense . I don't think you should attempt a clean up at home on this coin. Very nice find !
