Went back over to the farm were I found the other coins the other day..And this time I told the owner I want a few things this time..And I would pick what I wanted...He agreed..So I went detecting. .Same spot as last time..in about 10 min 1 foot away from the other half cents I found this time I pulled a 1802 half cent...its a shame its not the 1800 back..But ill take it!!!! The only made like 20.000 of these...and its in great shape...could be worth a nice amount. .also found what I think is another william and mary??? And this cool flat button..It looks like the shank broke and they put 2holes in it and sewed it back on...Thats cool...Waste nothing back then...and last I believe is a tompack button???? Thanks for looking...oh ps..I believe I made out this time...I did show the owner everything. .just didn't give him the option. ..lol...HH..
George...

Yeah,I remember bounty Hunter girl found one of those wizzer toys!

Thanks so mich Huntsman. ..Not sure were I fall in on the scale? ? I toke the coin over to this coin store today. THIS old man that told me his rotary phone is his Internet. .lol..He said if the coin didn't have a little bit of corrosion he would grade it in AU...What ever that means??? He also said the same thing as you they might not grade it?? Thanks George...

Vino... I would bet the old Coin Dealer is well versed in grading coins and if he said that if it were not for the corrosion, that he would grade it in AU condition, then that is a plus! It it were me, I would check with PCGS, NGC, ICG and ANACS to see if the coin can not only be conserved and certified but also given a true grade, not a details grade. If one or more agrees that they will give the coin a true grade, then I would go with that Grading Service Company. Considering the old Coin Dealer's statement and even if your' coin receives an EF-45 grade but notation AU details with Corroded, then I believe that the EF-45 grade will tie with the finest known specimen. This would be a plus...plus and would definitely give the coin a big boost if and when it goes up for Auction. The decision to have the coin conserved, certified and graded or not is up to you. However, if you decide not to have it conserved, certified and graded and sell it via a venue such as eBay, then it will probably not receive the price for which it has potential. Another option is to consult a private but Professional Coin Conservator about having the coin conserved and whether the coin can receive an actual grade. To have the coin conserved outside of PCGS, NGC, ICG or ANACS might be beneficial in getting the coin graded later and it receiving an actual grade.

treblehunter, you may have commented on my' fish at an earlier time but thanks! They are Hybrid Bass caught on the Cherokee Lake here in East Tennessee.

It was a pleasure to help George as doing so, also helps me and I hope that it helps others! When I see a Thread posted with a coin that really strikes my interest as George's coin has, I spend a lot more time researching information about the coin and the Variety which helps to educate me more and more with each and every coin I research. Sometimes I spend way too much time doing research, so I guess it's good that I am both retired and divorced! LOL!!

Take care!

What's up! Vino's 1802/0 "Cohen-2 Variety" Half Cent with Reverse of 1802 should by all means made Banner by now! Come on folks, please lend your support to this rare and valuable Banner find and vote for it to receive a Banner.

George... You are more than welcome! I am glad that I could help and will continue to do so! Yes, there are a lot of great finds lately and deserving of Banners for the finds but not many, more so than your' find. I do find it troubling that there are some that love to receive Banner votes and Likes but never seem to vote Banner for some folk's finds nor give Likes. Thank you as well for being a pure Gentleman as well and it was great talking to you on the phone! If you ever need advice or help, I am just a phone call away and the same goes to treblehunter and many others here on Treasure Net.

The 2nd lowest circulation-issue mintage year from 1793 to 1857, and in unbelievably wonderful condition for a dug coin. This is banner all day long. Where is the justice?

Just wanted to bring this back to the top, Vino sold this coin last Friday for $4200.00 He spent allot of time going to shows, dealers and PMing many members on this site. This Half Cent was referred to as the strongest strike for this date "EVER" to be seen. To get $4200.00 for a known dug coin, with known environmental damage just proves to me how opinionated these LC pricing and grading can be. As a member of this website I'm still trying to understand why a find like this could not go banner. I would think the moderators would be able to see how rare a coin and valuable it was finding it and put it up on the banner? Seems like in the short time I have been a member I have read time and time again how someone should have got a banner for one of there finds, only to have been lost in the busy posting buried again not in dirt, but under thread after thread from busy hunters. Just a shame, I just feel George should have received a banner(not that he cares) I just care. It was banner enough for him to find. And it was fun for me to watch the whole thing unfold. I believe he sold three of his LC's for a total of $5700 dollars, not bad for some great memories and great finds in his first year of metal detecting. Just selling three coins, he has at least fortysome LC's left and some very cool and valuable other finds from that first year too.

Thanks Brad!!!! Now im going to have the IRS..Looking for me..lol...Yes they were the first things I ever sold..I dont mind selling coins . BUT I love my relics and would not sell them...As this year of detecting comes to a close. (Fathers Day) I have had alot of fun and learned alot about history that I never new...I believe we benefit from this hobby more then any other hobby...I also met alot of great people on this site...Like you...HH

Well said treblehunter (Brad if you don't mind using your first name)! I talked to George about a week ago to check in on him and I believe he told me that an EAC member had only offered him $500 or $550 for the 1802/0 Half Cent and he refused it (I hope I didn't get the Half Cent confused with one of his' other Large Cents we were discussing!). I told him to hold out as the coin was worth way, way more than the offer and that I could not believe that the EAC member made such a low offer since the member surely knows how rare they are. Kudos upon kudos to George for getting what I believe is a more than fair price for this rare but dug coin! Now, come on folks. get to voting and make sure that this find finally makes Banner which is so richly deserves.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but this is banner by any standard. The combination of rarity, an early and strong die strike, and condition after 200 years in the ground are incredible. When I consider the conditions for a banner find, I ask myself, what are the chances I would find this coin in this condition if I detected every day for the rest of my life. In this case I am 99.99% certain that I would not, and I live in MA with lots of 17th century properties nearby. Put this thing on the top!
