I got a Minelab CTX-3030 a few weeks back. I haven't had a lot of detecting time lately but the last few Sunday mornings had been spent getting used to the detector and finding the right settings.

Last weekend I came across an old cellar hole and I went back to the area again this weekend with what I felt like were better settings.

I picked up some nice buttons and a few Wheaties, but the find of the day was my first copper of the year (finally!) an 1803 Half cent! No beauty queen but I love finding these old coppers. I only found three half cents over my first 9 years of detecting, but I think I found close to 10 over the last 12 months, and all but one were Draped Busts!

Like any other detector, it takes time to understand the detector. At first it was a bit frustrating, but I'm really beginning to like the feel of this one!

FYI the video is a short one, less than 2 minutes.

Minelabs are excellent machines, once u ace it you'll never look back! HH

Congrats on your first LC with the new machine. May it be first of many.

Hey Neil,

Glad to see that 3030 is working! Certainly would be interested to compare it to my e-trac. Maybe you can convince me to get one! Oops, never said congrats on the copper!

Very nice find

Giving up on theT2 already?! Get the 13" ultimate coil. Its scary deep. Very nice half cent btw.

Nicely done, Neil! Interested to hear how the 3030 stacks up to the T2 once you have a full sample size of hunts for comparison.

Congrats and thanks for sharing :icon_thumright:

The T2 is unquestionably a deep seeking detector, but it lacks the ID capabilities of the V3i or the CTX. Add a GPS and waterproof to the mix and the CTX-3030 is king.

The T2-SE and the Excalibur 1000 are sticking around for a while, but I don't see the need for owning both the V3i and the CTX. so if anyone is interested in a V3i with very little use, almost a year left on the warranty, 3 extra coils and all the accessories, send me a message.

Jim, I would like to get my hands on one of those. I think once I sell the V3i I will treat myself!
