1810 CLASSIC HEAD LC * BUCKLES & BUTTONS

Got out with gary(foundationhunter) for a bit today.we went back to a site that Gary nabbed a 1812 classic head and a 1820's excelsior button the last time we were there.
today I got a few buttons,a rivet type fastener with a train on it.a HUGE batwing type buckle, a small shield buckle & a 1810 classic head large cent.was a good day.ticks were plentiful & they still pop like popcorn when ya hold the Bic to em :laughing7:
5 am i was still not quite awake and forgot my camera.sorry no site pics :-\

Re: 1810 CLASSIC HEAD LC * BUCKLES & BUTTONS

I'm just asking questions Don.I love history & like to learn as well.could this smaller buckle pictured above be a colonial era spur buckle?
I have dug a complete iron spur with the buckle fused to it and obviously the buckle style is different than the last pics i posted. below is the spur with buckle.is this 18th century & rev war military possibly??
below is a link to 1600-1700 spur buckles

That is a realy nice spur, certainly 18th Century or a little earlier. I am not an expert on spurs but that is right for the mid 18th Century.

Re: 1810 CLASSIC HEAD LC * BUCKLES & BUTTONS

I found that exact buckle this year also, good question on thier use. the site I found this at was not colonial, but whos to say the buckle is not. the land was worked from 1800 to 1940,
and many original land owners here in the fingerlakes NY were revolutionary soldiers. I myself always thought it was for a saddle bag.
