The site where the rev war buttons and Spanish silver has been coming from, is just a small spot amongst several other sites on a huge permission. We decided to take the last hour of daylight, to hit another cellar hole on that permission. I'm very glad we did, but wish we gave ourselves more time! I dug several targets in that short period of time. 5 tombac buttons, which I have to my hunting buddy, a KG II , 104th New Brunswick regiment pewter button, yet another Rev War Navy button in great shape, and a colonial sword scabbard with leather intact!! I can't say that it's Rev War era with certainty, but I do know it's colonial. It was a fun hunt, and I can't wait to get back there next week for a full day or 2!

These lucky dip areas are fun as you never know what period might pop up next. Congrats

Congrats on some nice finds. I like that button.

Nice finds--love that button :occasion14:

Congratualtions on the old coin and cool relics! :occasion14:

Wow nice job. The button is in beautiful shape. Congrats

Wow just fantastic!

Thank you very much. I'm not sure which is the better find, the pewter button or colonial sword scabbard. The button is a very hard one to find and has such an amazing story attached to it. I can't say that I would travel 1200km in the dead of winter, pulling sleds full of supplies in deep snow for over 50 days!

That button is amazing. I have never seen one with the gilding on the anchor and chain 100% intact, showing such remarkable detail. Have not seen one with a chain, for that matter. The fouled anchor involves rope, not chain, in the examples I have seen. I would love to know the info on that Navy button, if you wouldn't mind sharing.

Sure thing. The chain and anchor was used pre 1790 and usually for a British Royal Navy soldier with high rank. This particular button is an early example of this design. It can be found if you Google "Diana's button navy backmark"
