There is a site that I have been hitting since the summer. I have found buttons there, some Wheaties, a Barber Dime and an 1840 Large Cent. I knew there had to Spanish Silver there because the buttons I was finding were almost all pre 1840's. It was hard to get to because the vegetation was very thick. I would have to wait until Fall. My patience finally paid off when I got a 60 VDI reading at around 6 inches deep. I was thinking it may be another Wheatie, but when I saw the edge sticking out of the dirt I knew it was too thin to be a penny. Needless to say I was happy to see a king looking up at me!

Mexico began it's own design around 1821 I think.

Great find Neil!

Thanks! It seems like sometimes you don't find silver for months, yet other times you can't walk out your front door without it at your feet!

awesome old find man great job

Is this another odd variety? Maybe someone with the Krause Word Coin Catalog can help. I noticed the "V" has a strange punch. Maybe a repunched V or just a die fracture? Can anyone help with the ID?

Wow!

All the best,

Lanny
