Well it's been over a year since my last post.
Not that I haven't been out hunting but my wonderful occupation keeps me way to busy. But when time off comes I am still researching and hiking the hills and woods.
And I'm still digging coppers and relics. But usually the same old things I've posted many times in the past. But the other night I scored a very nice relic. And it is worthy of being posted.
My compadre Rich secured us a permission to an 1804 tavern site. Truly expecting a virgin site it seems as though there had been a lot of landscaping and perhaps quite a bit of fill dirt brought in in the past.
Finds were unremarkable. Memorial pennies and tin foil. One wheatie
Rich moved to the other side of the home and I went to the back nearer to the barn. Then...….. Drumroll......
My first target was a screamer. 90's plus on the screen. 4 inches down in the dirt.
I certainly did not expect what came up ! I spent a considerable amount of time looking for this particular buckle in books and online and the closest photo I can find that most resembles the one I found is an 1820's early militia plate.
Thrilled to have found it. The condition is stunning !
I'm including both front and back photos of it and the reproduction photo. There are only subtle differences between the two
Also is a pic of a militia eagle button I dug at a different site.
Thanks for looking.
