I found a similiar item this summer and thought it was a door knocker...... the space in the middle is a clean one... nuttin has broken off...... any ideas or help??

Minton, yours is the other half of the buckle. the 2 pieces fit together to make a complete buckle.

any ideas as to how old it is??? the house I found it around was built in 1893.. n was a vacant lot before that....
 

The Militia buckle is one great find! So glad it is in great shape for you and what a beautiful relic and piece of our history.
