Found this rare tongue on sunday at a civil war/colonial site in Hampton VA, about 9 inches down under countless roots. Luckily I did not destroy it with my Lesche. Thanks for looking.

Man that is what I have.... well I think so anyways..... You are correct that it is certainly very close... I guess when the weather breaks I will have to go back to the yard I found that half in and see if I can manage the other half. That half wasn't very deep as I recall and I hunted and hunted the fairly small yard with not much luck.... but I will go back and see what if anything else I can snag when the ground thaws some... any ideas as to a value if I can find the other half and it is in comparable condition

;D ;D Milton, just found these other photos on your buckle,Looks like yours is 1/2 of the set.Hope you find the other 1/2, cause on that page the belt buckle was selling for $2500.00 plus. No that is not a typo error!!!!

Even Gene Simmons would be jealous of that tongue. Nice job.

WOW! Now THAT'S a find!!!! Bravo! ;D

Minton, I hope you find the other piece of that buckle--but even as it stands it still has value. I'm sure that somewhere there's a tongue part rolling around in need of the second piece.

Nice work, all!

Seeing that each of you have 1/2 of a buckle, why not combine forces and split the profits...

$1,250.00 is better that 1/2 of nothing.

I can just imagine the excitement of that find when you uncovered it. WOW !!

Beautiful find! I am a HUGE Civil War buff...I had an ancestor that was a Sgt. with the 16th Connecticut. They fought at Antietam only a few weeks after being mustered in...one hell of a baptism by fire! He was captured at Plymouth NC, sent to Andersonville, from there eventually sent to Charleston and died there. Very sad and I know it's kind of strange, but I feel a strong connection with him. I have visited Spotsylvania, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, Andersonville, The Wilderness and Charleston and plan on going to Antietam and Harpers Ferry this spring. I have MANY books on the Civil War and would love to go detecting in an area to find some relics. Hell, I'd be thrilled to just find one bullet! I have never found any Civil War items but I did find what I think is a musket ball here in New Jersey. My wife and I have talked about possibly moving to the Winchester Virginia area, been through there and it looks VERY nice...

Fantastic dig!!

AWESOME FINDS!!!! ALL OF THEM.

The Civil War buckles are awesome but............The older, the better....kinda like wine.

That is a beauty! The other half should be close by I would think. I also have a nice German buckle with a lion's head on it, sword hangar, just the half, I need to try and find the other half someday. HH, Mike

I'm from the UK & even I think this is Banner worthy :) ;) :D

BANNER

What a fantastic relic! I was thinking Banner, too. Keep digging!

Great find! I live in Newport news. I am surprised we have never run into each other. We are lucky to have so much history where we live.
