I'm posting this for "Mannimal" of the XP Owners Forum in the U.K.

It blew my mind when I saw his photos. Never saw one of these and it's in beautiful condition too.

He said: " Managed an hour this morning and this little fella turned up! Pretty little thing."

Any opinions on value?

Regards, Joe

nice looking coin, thats what the XP does best, sniff out tiny silver. I've had blobs of silver that are hard to keep hold of they are so small

That thing is GORGEOUS!!! I have no idea of value, but, methinks it's worth a pretty penny, er, nickel (pun intended) :laughing7: I can't even fathom that was dug. Incredible shape. And found in the U.K. no less. Wow :headbang:

I am confused the first five cent piece shown in my book is an 1866 shield nickel. This looks just like a five dollar half eagle except where the "5 C" is the half eagle has a "5 D" (The half eagle is gold) Hope someone can explain this to me...Great looking coin though.

Okay, the coin is a Capped Bust Half Dime and in that condition, it's worth somewhere in the ballpark of $165- 200.00 US dollars(just a guess).

Thanks JW15 I found it in my book as a half dime and was going to add to my post. I should have looked a bit more before posting. This is a bit embarrassing although I have made much bigger blunders and will do so again I'm sure. Everyone have a great day.

It is worthless....i will trade u a New penny for it........ :P

The Caped bust half Dime were minted between 1829 and 1837. Mintage on the 1834 was 1,480,000. It looks like it would grade pretty high at either VF (Very Fine) or EF (Extremely Fine). Value about $100.00 to $150.00. Source: 2010 Red Book.

No problem, I actually made a bit of a error myself, lol. The 2011 red book value I posted previously was based on an 1834 error strike and not a regular strike. The value of this coin based on VF 20 to EF 40 condition is $110-165.00 and just for the record, the black coloring on the coin is toning and not dirt and should NEVER be cleaned off.
