Hi Folks,

The ground has thawed and temps. finally are getting warmer. Spent the winter researching an old Methodist Camp meeting grounds I read about in an autobiography. It sits somewhere on the 160 acres I am detecting, 160 acres doesn't sound like much until you start walking it and not knowing for sure where exactly they were held on it. It's not easy either when it's corn stubbles. Talked to the farmer who owns it and he said it would be in beans this spring. Told him I would wait and come back this fall. Anyway's spent 3 hrs. here and covered maybe an acre of it. Found my first ever in 43 yrs. Seated Liberty Quarter 1840 "O", have found plenty of seated dimes and other 1800's coins in the past but no seated quarter's. Red book says it has a mintage of 43,000. This one has the drapery at the elbow. Also found the 1868 Indian Head. Hope the picture of the quarter post alright because it looks like it was dropped the year it was minted. Found with a CZ-3D. Thanks for looking and good hunting.

Congrats on your first seated quarter and it's a nice one. It may have a few nicks, but great detail. Last year I found my first seated half dime and the year before my first seated half dollar after detecting for 35 years so I know the great feeling you must have. Way to go! BTW, not a bad Indian either in date or condition. Those 1860's Indians don't come up that often.

Thanks Don. Yes it felt good to find. Congrats on the seated half. It took me 40yrs. to find my one and only half dollar, a well worn 1918 walker.

Nice Find!!! I've only found an 1891 Seated Dime and would love to find a quarter. I mostly hunt public parks here in Chicagoland so competition is pretty tough. Proud as can be of that dime though. It must have been overlooked by a lot of other hunters... Congrats again!

My first seated coin was a 1891 dime also. I about wore it out taking it out to look at it all the time.

Very nice Semi Key Indian, and STUNNING Seated Quarter!!! That is part of what makes this HOBBY so cool; after 5, 10, 20, 25 or 43 years we are still finding our "Firsts"!!! Yesterday after 5 years I found a first, a decent Flying Eagle Penny!

Oh yea, BIG CONGRATS!

Hey Bill. Tried the aluminum foil and baking soda in hot water.

If I found it I'd make it shine like new with baking soda paste.
Ha, I like my silver to shine.
Unless I thought a silver coin I found was worth thousands then I wouldn't touch it. Just me, to each his own.

Seated quarters in any condition is a good day. To have found one in that condition is a Great DAY.

WTG Mike! I know you're glad to scratch that one off the list. It took me quite a while to find my first one too, but nothing like 43 years. Patience always pays off .....
