So I have not posted much in last year or two but I recently got permission to check out this back yard on a 1840s house... Let the pictures do the talking.... I have not dug yet,, what you see is all I have done..... PRIVY dig TIME!!! DSC00678.webp DSC00679.webp DSC00686.webp DSC00688.webp:laughing7:

Oh Crap! Be careful.

I hear your concern.. What you see is only 2' below my feet.. We figure it to be 12'-14' deep... More to it, but don't want to tell all my secretes...

Please get lots of pictures for us, and good luck!

Don't dig it alone. Who knows what hazards are present. That's to be considered a confined space. Google "confined space entry".....

I agree many dangers here, never dig alone and as matter of fact we might have a backhoe on hand for this one.

Pictures, pictures, pictures. You can't take enough of them. There are likely 2-3 more privies there so keep probing. Best of luck to you

I'm excited and I'm not even there.

I would be too busy imagining what was there and digging it out, I wouldn't be able to take pics. I am excited already too

You really really really need to be careful. Deepseeker is correct. Confined space entry is not something you need to be doing without proper equipment training and help. It takes every bit of one second and lights out. At a bare minimum you need a tripod harness and o2 monitor. and lets not even discuss the possibility of a cave in.

I don't have time tonight to post on a second thread tonight but go to todays finds I posted today up date there.. I will 100% keep everyone up to date here whaen I get a chance. Yeah and for what its worth I dig this one for SURF.. I miss that guy...

Worthy tribute. Hope you find a cache of colored pontils in his memory. The best internet reseacher ever, hands down. Best of luck.

Here are the pictures and what we got done yesterday. Here we are at 3' down and my 6' probe is buried to the handle. DSC00690.webp We made it down to 5' yesterday and called it quits. Pulling out chunks of concrete brick for few feet but look like a 1' or so of sand, can sort of see in in the picture. It looks like a bunch of loose brick couple feet below my feet. Possible they collapsed privy into hole?? Well nothing yet we will be back over this afternoon!! DSC00693.webp DSC00695.webp Any further and we are going to need a ladder. That pontil sho' be looking good. I'd be some kinda pee-umped and digging up a storm after pulling that out.

Get that jug cleaned up and show it off. Like I said, this hole looks VERY promising

That slick pontil alone would make my day. Hurry up and dig this thing, we need to see it!

I had gloves just took them off. LOL no this was a bust I got so mad... There more pits in back yard...
