What an Incredible Day!!! This was one of the funnest days of detecting that I have had since starting this journey several years ago. Lets set the stage here. I was driving down the street the other day in search of a place to hunt and saw this place that was just "calling me." Just never saw any activity there or anyone cars in the drive. So I said what the heck, all they can do is say no, right? Place looked vacant really, but when I walked up to the door I could see a light on. So I knocked and a gentleman answered the door. I told him what I did and that I would really like permission to hunt the property. He said with who else? I told him one other guy that I hunt with. He said I will give you permission for one day only. Try your luck for one day and thats it. Kinda of Matter of Fact like sort of guy. So I said I would be back in the morning since it was too late to start today.

Rise and shine...Nice day and the detector Gods were on our side. Started out with the brass type ring. Good start. The guy said the house was built 140 years ago and he has lived here for 60 years. The big plus was that he said no one has ever hunted it. So Don and I pounded the place into submission. After the ring I got the 1844 Canada Half Penny Token ( my second one of these this year, strange). Then Don pops out the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Worlds Fair Medal. Went ont to get A FIRST for me and my DREAM COIN an 1864 2 Cent piece. I was on cloud 9 then. Ten feet away I hit another one, this one was a 1866 . Soon thereafter I got a 1898 Injun and then another, this time a 1865 in great shape. Then the guy suggested we hit the bean field for a bit near where he burried some junk from an old barn. Sure enough, out pops the 1849 Large Cent. Rather fried but I aint complaining. Time soon ran out for the day and it was over for this one day hunt. I did find several great buttons as well. What a great day this was. I just wish we could do it again. Be safe out there jgas

The fact that he let you hunt and then told you another place to try would indicate he is open for more. I'd follow the other's advice and make him up some kind of gift with some of the relics. Give it to him, thank him profusely and ask him if he would consider letting you continue. If not the yard right away at least in the field before crops start getting planted. Heck, Thanksgiving is coming, buy them a gift certificate for a turkey at the local grocery.

There is a key to the guy and you just have to find it and turn it.
