As promised yesterday, here are the photos of yesterday's finds, with a link to the story. Earthworks also found 1849 Large Cent the day before I did, about 50 yards from where I found mine. I've included photo of his as well. At the time these were minted, Abraham Lincoln was 40 years old (or 39 depending on time of year), and the safety pin was patented that year. Have to figure they were lost within a few years of minting...what a rush to find these coins. This may have been a swimming area. There's the banks of what looks like it was once a pond, and old stone supports on one side.

Very sweet Large Cents. Makes the LC I found look like crap. :D ::) I'm still happy, maybe my next will look as good.

That copper looks fantastic!

Maybe the pond was an old ice-house. Do the stone supports have iron rods that stick out on top?

Congrats on the LCs!

Thanks, all. Ridley -- no metal (at least not any more), the stones are at one end and are like a damn with a spillway that doesn't seem to go anywhere now. It's more less of a damn at that end. It could have been something else back then. I see what you mean it could be an ice house, as I've seen that type of set up around here.

Great looking coins, thanks for sharing .

Wow, nice LC the IH is nice too...

Keep @ it and HH!!
