It's been a lil bit since I have been able to get out. The street tear out I have been hunting has moved along quite a bit and some new holes have been dug along with fresh dirt piles from deeper depths next to them. So I went out tonight and hit a good number of items, one of which was completely unexpected and made my month! I hit a couple of rosies, 46 & 63. It was nice digging some silver again. Another flat button, very small, from 1820-1830, a snap button rivet from france, a cool looking valve (not sure what to), my wifes favorite a bunny rabbit buckle prob off suspenders or a backpack, one of my favorites was the antique metal pencil sharpener, a copper arrow head button or something worn on clothes (would appreciate any help with an ID on this item), and a brass bushel tag like used to be put on cotton bushels once bundled up (there used to be a very large green house/garden center here in the 1800's). And lastly, my most exciting find ever...an 1852 silver 3cent piece!!! I've never seen one let alone held one! At first I thought it was a foreign coin of some sort until I saw the United States of America on it (I freaked out a bit, I admit it!!!) Anyway, 3 silvers and a bunch of really cool relics, not shabby for a few hours of swinging. I'm gonna be pretty sad when this street is finally done, but there will always be more to dig!! Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Went out Sunday to a favorite park of mine but struck out. Trying out a new detector and still learning it. Did manage to pull that ring and a few coins out of my yard with the new detector...so maybe some good things to come. Often get out on the weekends...not as much during the week. So keep your eyes open for me on the tear out Saturday/Sunday. When that gets done maybe we can find another to work on. PBS

My wife said she saw someone out at the park Sunday, I'm guessing it was you! Lol I too will be out this week and weekend at the tear out, hope we run into each other again. As for afterwards I have leads on several very promising areas to hunt. We'll have to talk! Good luck and see ya soon!

That is an amazing find! Congrats! Not high jack the thread, but if I may ask, whom do I go about asking to metal detect any kind of street/side walk tear out? Thanks in advanced. Great, great find!!

Wow! I've never even heard of a 3 cent piece. Of course I'd never heard of a V nickel either until I dug one about a month ago. Thanks for sharing all the pics. How much fun is this?

Congratulations on some fantastic finds, and especially the three cent-er! :icon_thumright:

Thanks for checking my out my pics! If your town/city doesnt have any laws governing metal detecting then you should be good to go because its public land. If your arent sure i believe you can check with your city admin or, i would imagine, the police dept could let you know as well. If anyone else has any other suggestions please feel free to chime in. The roadway and either side of its center up to about 30 ft is deemed public. Play it safe and stay between the sidewalks. In Michigan, if something is not deemed illegal it is considered legal. However, I HAVE been asked to leave tear-outs by the police in some communities ("liability"). Other communities, the police will talk to you out of curiosity and allow you to go about your "business". I would just advise to be respectful if an authority tells you to leave. Some residents are ignorant of where there property actually "starts". Again, if someone doesn't like you in front of their residence, respectfully move along to a portion of the tear out that is not in front of their home. AND wait until the construction crew is done so you are not getting in their way ("again, liability"). Use common sense and remember that you represent the hobby and you should be able to enjoy some opportunities to find items that aren't seen as often.
