You best bet for value is to take a look at the red book, look at the value in good condition, then subtract probably about 10% for all the nicks.

Looking at the pictures it looks like the last two numbers are 52 but like you said they didn't add the arrows until 53. the mint mark is on the reverse either above or below the wreath. picture looks like it has whats left of an s for san fransisco. only thing I can come up with is maybe its a 58s worth 75.00 for good. Another possibility is a rare variation 52 with arrows. Book doesn't mention this type of variation though so dont know if it exsists. Very nice find though.

Nice coin! Too Bad about the nicks...
I have an 1852 large cent that would go alone with it. It's in realy bad shape...

it is rough, but also beautiiful, but its not an 1852, the 3 now looks like a 2, from one or more beatings, still a nice find, congrats !
