Not sure what this is. Went back to the hops field that we hit the last days of the Brothers & Others hunt. Dug this coin, which is a little larger than a large cent. On the front I can read the word Provincial, and in the center there is the number two which is surrounded by wreaths on either side. On the back in the center is the date 1854. There does not appear to be any other markings on the back.
I am assuming that this is Canadian Provincial (or Newfoundland), Any help would be appreciated...Thanks...Lance

Nice find Lance! That little bow below the 2 reminds me of a European coin. Surprised you have hops growing up there in Vermont. HH, Mike

I may be incorrect about this, but your coin looks very much like a 2 reale from the CASA DE MONEDA, BUENOS AYRES. I have one from 1853 of not identical, but very similar characteristics. A very nice find, and if it is from Buenos Ayres, its a long way from home. Good luck- Captain Kidd

Captain Kidd nailed it! It's an 1854 2 reales copper from the city & province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, as indicated by the inscription around the "2": PROVINCIA DE BUENOS AYRES. Around the date is CASA MONEDA DOS REALES. The Casa Moneda replaced the Banco Nacional (National Bank) in 1836. Coins of this particular design and denomination were struck from 1853 to 1856.

There are some good pics of one on eBay:

Thank you both very much. I was only off by about 7,000 miles. Appreciate the help. Again, Thanks....Lance
