hello, all me and the wife went out for a bit last sat in the woods, we were there for about 20 min and got a solid copper reading on the rite metal machine, and nailed this 1859 indian head. i think this is the first year made. then last month we were detecting a friends house here in bangor maine, and we dug this 1833 large cent. we actually dug two of them in the same hole but i cant read the other one. i just got my cam working right as i didn't know how to use it correctly. now i can post some of our finds. thanks everyone. god bless. ben.

WTG on those IH's :icon_thumleft: HH

Those are some great looking coins. Most of the places I hunt here in Arkansas the copper coins are pretty pitted and in rough shape, must be the soil.
congrats, peanut

those are some beutys!!!! 1859 is the first year and is that a full liberty? nice. show us some more pics please. willy.

please post a pic of the other copper you found.. There are some people on here that may be able to get a date off of it even tho you think it's not there...

Nice finds! I hunt in the Bangor area quite a lot with my dad, brother, uncle and buddies. It's an old place with lots of history. WTG on those oldies.

hello, all here is a pic of the other large cent that we found in the same hole, and a 1902 canadian coin, and a double ring bullet. i dont know anything about bullets so any info would be very helpful. thanks.
ben.

Nice finds!! That 33 LC is sweet but your 59 "fatty" IH is really special.First year for the Indian Head and the only year with the reverse having the Laurel Wreath and no shield. Would love to see the reverse of that 59 if you get a chance. HH,Jerry

I don't have my reference books at hand, but the bullet looks like a Colt bullet, 1860s time frame, .44 cal.

Great finds! I look forward to seeing more of your photos and posts here. That 1859 is a nice looking coin too.

Best Wishes,

Buckleboy

could you please post a photo of the front of the large cent you can't find the date of? thanks

didn't the 1859 ring up more like a nickel? you mentioned it gave you a solid copper signal? I have ran some of the fatties under my coil before and got a nickel signal on my x-70

sweet find!

One year from the eagle cent! Looking at that indian gives me motivation to run outside and start sniffin around. Good job on the large cent as well.

hello all. been a bit busy i finally got some free time. when i got the 1859 indian head it locked on as copper, but my machine is a "rite metal detector" it might be a bit differant but, with my whites i had. most of them jumped around from nickel to copper on the indians. how do you like the x-70 "goes4ever" i have been looking at one myself i hear they are a very good machine. "i got the large cent at about 7" down it came in as solid copper too. "sniffy" it sounds like you got the bug to go detecting you should get the ol detector out and go swingin the coil. i like to detect in the woods alot, i have found some of my best finds there. i have that detecting bug every day lol. i live in bangor maine and we have alot of old woods here, and thats where i like it the best i find alot of old toys there too as the kids played there long ago, and left there toy cars, guns, lead soldiers. but i am going to hit an old cellar hole tomorrow i will send in some pics of the place. it looks real good i hope i find something there. good luck to everone hope you find somthing good. "god bless" ben.

I LOVE my x-70, had a ton of good finds this year with it!

i have been looking at the x-70 i hear that the depth is really good on this machine, i am thinking i am going to buy one. i like the way it looks too. is there a company or a web site that you could recommend. thanks goes4ever. ben.

I have yet to find a nickel IH..... found an 1864 once., and a flying eagle.. but not one like yours.. congrats!
