Hit the same spot we have been hitting. Old 1800s farmland. Got some nice keepers. No clue what the hat is. Super fragile. Might be some writing but can’t make it out just yet. Few buttons and a mystery item or two. The key hole fits the skeleton key perfectly.

I can not find a single thing about this hat online it’s driving me nuts. So is my buddy because he is very envy of the hat. He passed right over it.

Awesome relic hunt, congrats! :occasion14:

I guessed cane topper but the more I look at it could be the top to a container of some kind Good luck hope you find the correct ID Tommy

I gotta tell you Kmatch7, I searched google for over an hour and a half for something close. (Before the wife called with a flat tire...lol or I'd still be looking) I found several really close things that turned out to be snuff boxes or tea caddy spoons(measuring devices)..but Everything French had décor along the front and sides of the Kepi. And everything that had the décor on the top of the Brim/Visor of the hat was Nautical. I found Several French persons that looked like your figure. but I am tending to lean more towards Subterranean's idea of the figure...??? I may be wrong (probably am), but I think American Nautical..and it may just be Dewey. ???

That would be pretty cool if it was. I have found zero examples of this or anything similar

I think your image is of Admiral Dewey, Hero of the Spanish American War. IMHO. Awesome finds. Sub 8-)
Geez Nice pull. I think you are spot on with this and it would make sense being found here. The French wore Kepis but ours were pretty much fashioned after them Even CW caps are a squashed version. Looking at your picture vs metal cap It is much shorter in stature than the kepi and looks the exact proportion to Dewey pictured hat I say Ding Ding Ding.

Dewey reached rock star status around the turn of the 20th C.

Google 'Admiral Dewey souvenirs' to see all the stuff they made in tribute to him. Everything from dishes to clocks to candy cigars...

Found this. Couldn’t find the direct link to the item on websiteAA30CD09-9E61-4DD6-ACE8-BB0B2C155C90.webp
