Hey all -
Found this yesterday on an old mid-1600's farm. It's not too heavy, seems to be copper, and is about two inches long (large cent in photo for scale, also found at the farm).
It's stamped with: PAT. JAN 6 1874, which is backwards if you're wearing it as a pin or broach or something. And why patent a piece of jewelry?



It's some kind of clip, obviously, but for what? My wife says it looks like a bookmark. But then why would it have those five tiny holes?
No clue what it was used for. Thanks in advance for the help!
