Most of us know that the mint started minting Morgan Silver Dollars in 1878 but few are aware of the mint's 1877 pattern Morgan Half Dollar that was minted as a possible replacement for the Seated Liberty Half Dollar. The design was rejected and the Seated Liberty half dollar continued to be minted until the end of 1891. In 1892 it was replaced by the Barber Half Dollar.
