So cool this is our 1st find...a dog tax tag from 1889. It's says Dardanelle. It's the town next to us here in Arkansas. where my fiancé bought a house by the river. We started looking on Internet for ones like it thinking it was worth 50 bucks or something. Found very very few of em, and have had some good offers on it. We r so excited to have found it and that it's worth so much. It was incased in sand which kept it almost perfectly preserved. It's so cool looking in shape of flared cross with number91 on it. Hunting is so fun, we r now addicted and news to us that it's also profitable to do it. How cool.

oh is that how ebay works? thanks for clearing that up! What we were confused about was how it was determined to be worth $500 when in the post she made it seem like it was worth $50 which then leads us to why in the world someone would raise there bid 3 times up to $500! Just like you said we didnt know there was a reserve obviously because you cant see it! Soo to sum it up it looked like this "private" buyer was seemingly upping the anty to make it seem like the item was worth more than it really is! Understand?:icon_thumright:

Is there anyway you can tell us how or who determined it to be worth $500? I cant find one in any way shape or form worth over $150 :dontknow:.....So im just curious! I like to get the whole story!! makes me even more tickled when im talking with greatness! :headbang::icon_thumright:

The value is in whatever someone wants to pay for it. I think it has a lot going for it...
1) One of the older years you will find for a dog tag
2) Sounds like it could be a rare tag, possibly one of only a few to exist
3) Good condition
4) Great design and lettering
A true collector knows the value lies in the rarity so I'm glad you have a bidder that appreciates it. Great find and hope the die-hard collectors bid it up more by the end of the auction.

Thanks for clearing those posts up. I had answered them the best I could, but seems I didn't know exactly how else to answer them. Thanks!

This isn't today's find so I'll post on the other forum sites after this...but just so ppl. Know... my fiance' who found the tag, and I both have posted about this topic under my name on here. Just incase there was any confusion.

hmmm.last time i bid on an item that had a reserve the bids show up until the reserve is met ..there is just a little note that says reserve not met......and again i ask why do people waste time with posting things with a reserve ........if you know you are not willing to sell at a lesser price just start the bidding at what you want..
either way you are not going to sell it until someone meets the price you want...........

Teverly, didn't really think about starting price at 500 doll guess that's what we should have done instead of placing the reserve at that we r new to eBay, so we r doing the best we can...with what we know.

People are more likely to start bidding on an item if the price is low and they think they can get a good deal on it. If you start it at $500, that is going to scare some people off.

I had no idea these tags were worth so much. Nice find!

Thanks...it was his first find. I'm proud he found it. I had no idea they were worth so much either. Glad for it though. I grew up n graduated high school in this town of Dardanelle...small town on the Arkansas river.
