Finally got out for a few hours this morning. Went to the site that I found my Mass State Copper. It's just a riverside with some nice early history. First good signal was a nice low 90s signal and I was ready for some old silver. Well it was silver but not old, 1949. I hate to say I was disappointed but when you're in a spot that could be hiding Spanish silver you don't expect a Washington. Next signal I dug was a fairly low number and I figured it was another headstamp but it was a small Tombac with a really unique design. Not sure what it is about the design but I love this button. Found a few round balls and a broken spoon. Then I got a nice signal with a high number and out popped my first ever Barber coin, an 1896 quarter that has incredible detail. A signal right beside it gave up a 1907 IH. Felt good to finally get out for a decent hunt. Was hoping for some old coins but can't complain with what I found. It's funny that this is my first Barber coin and first Washington silver. I've found 10 or 12 coins from the 1700s so it's a bit backwards. Best of luck out there everyone, Abe image-3670186854.webp image-2456719199.webp image-3308902928.webp image-349950172.webp

Nice finds bud. I had a similar experience yesterday. We were on an older site pulling a few coppers and buttons then I found a gold ring. I was so excited but turns out its a 1960 class ring. Gold is gold but I thought I had something from the early 1800's. keep picking through it an you'll find some old silver

Nice finds Abe. It does sound a bit backwards the order you're finding your coins in but it sounds to me like you're doing it right. :laughing7: Congrats on your first of each of those silver quarters. The barber has awesome detail.

real nice digs abe!, I cant get out til Tuesday and seeing finds like these make it go by so much slower!

Hey there Ahab, that's a great hunt. Congrats
ZDD

Very nice finds!

If that was a 1896-S Barber quarter you would have a $1000 coin.

I like that button too. Very nice finds, Abe. Getting out is good in itself.

Excellent finds , may we assume that the broken spoon is not silver since you were pretty low key about it ?

Nice digs . Thanks for the pics

Thanks buddy! It can be areal heartbreaker when you're on some old dirt and you pull something newer. I saw that silver shining today and was pretty bummed for a bit. Then said "what the hell is wrong with you man, you just pulled silver out of the ground and you're in a beautiful spot" It's easy to lose perspective sometimes. We are all lucky to do this and find great history!

Thanks Evo! Yeah I'm not complaining about finding the oldies first. This first year has been amazing. Over 20 old coppers so far and some Spanish silver. Lots of cool old relics and my first military button last week. What more could a treasure hunter ask for :-)

Been so damn busy lately it's been tough. Always feels fantastic to get out. That button really draws me in. Not sure what it is but it's just different than most

Hey buddy I do believe it's silver. Got a bit carried away with the coins and my interesting Tombac and did not give it the respect it deserved. Coins get all the love :-)

Good job big guy
