Today I hunted a park for about a half hour and pulled this 1899 V-Nickel out of the ground. This site has been heavily hunted over the years but I've managed to get three silvers, a lot of clad and several wheaties out of it. This nickel is stained brown. Does anyone know how to clean it up? Thanks for looking. Dan

Nice V nickel!!!

If you soak the nickel in lime away for one or two days, taking it out now and again to brass brush it eventually it will come clean. If you have a rounded bottom bowl you can soak both sides at once however if the nickel rests flat you will have to turn the nickel over and do both sides.

Thank you!

I use lime a way as well but it never took two days!!! I'd keep a close eye on it, mine cleaned up in a couple hours

nice looking V....Matt

Nice V Dan. Hope it cleans up for ya. Re-post some after pics. I have some rusty coins I'd like to try also. Ron

I had many suggestions for cleaning the nickel. I had Worcestershire sauce on hand and so I used that. It did a good job of getting rid of the brown stain.

It all depends how corroded and if you soak one side at a time. The time is an example not a exact process. Don't take everything literal.
