18k gold ring, great big flintlock and parts

These are some of our best and most confusing finds, would love to know what kind of musket this came from. Dang 'jeweler' said this ring was only as old as any bottle caps that we might dig up!

It kind of looks like a 1766 Charleville musket mechanism. These were used by the US Navy then.

Thank you, Any idea how old the 18k is? It was deep about 13 inches, cleaned up quick. Heard 18k was more common in the early days.?

That's an incredible hit depth-wise. What type of soil and what's your setup? I must know!

yep, 18K definitely more common in the older days, but it's making a comeback! It's a bit softer than 14K. Scratches easily. Your ring could very easily be late 19th century.

The Charleville musket does look like it matches, is it an octagon barrel? Because we did pull out two, a 37 incher and a 45 incher. The ring was in a hard packed clay ee kind of ground, found with the beloved Minelab.

When jewellers say that, what they mean is they only want to pay the value of any bottle cap you find for your gold ring. I mean really it is actually your fault for walking in there, you should have paid him to take it and then offered to mow his lawn every day until his Highness releases you from service.

I stopped selling to these clowns long ago, they pay pennies.

Looks kinda like a M1816 musket lock. Octagonal barrel is strange though... Possibly 1803 Harpers Ferry?

The Charleville did not have an octagonal barrel. So maybe that blows a hole in my theory. Still a wonderful find though!!!
