18k jewelry tester acid and gold ore?

Does it mean anything if my 18k test acid for jewelry fizzes and bubbles on possible ore samples?

Maybe someday I'll get to use the solution with ore.

It is acid which won't dissolve gold. I'd venture to say that is the impurities which dissolve. What remains afterward might be something nice, or not.
