So you live in the mid to late 1700's. You broke your Moms favorite vase. You have no crazy glue, no Home Depot so you have to think fast. Why not meltdown a piece of lead from a musket ball and make a splint for the vase. Just drill a hole on each side of the crack and splint it with your new lead musket ball splint. Put it on the shelf with the repaired side against the wall! No one will ever know until yesterday when I dug it up.

That's a unique find. And a fairly clever use of materials when they didn't have glue available.
