I just finished conserving tools from an 18th century shipyard. The site has odd square nails 4" long with lead heads. I've never seen them before. Also found were 3 fantastic British 82nd officers buttons, an AU 1797 Half cent, 1795 Half cent. Has any one here seen this type of nail or know the names of the shipwright tools? Thanks for any input:cross:

Neat finds I have never seen before! The two bladed tools are likely for working wood and the lead-head nails could have been used to fasten copper plating on the ship bottom and seal the hole the nail made. Copper plating was used to protect the ship from shipworms. Just a guess.
