Got out for some hunting today and manged this 1902 O Barber half at around 6". I should've tried for better pics and may be able to get a couple better shots of it tomorrow in the daylight. Anyone care to take a stab at what they think it might grade at? Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Thanks for theinput and comments guys. I would like to know what a dealer would say as well but who knows. I'm guess probably grades fine. There was no rubbing in the field or harsh cleaning on this coin. Just bottled water in the field then when I realized how nice it was starting to look I brought it straight home to soak in some warm soapy water for awhile. After that it had a coating of MS-70 gently with q-tips, then rinsed and air dried.

I did get a short video clip of the coin after pouring bottled water over it in the field and added it to my channel last night.

Great Find !...Thats still on my wish list...Congrats!...Looks to be in FINE condition at the least

One of these days I want to take some of my nicer coins to a nearby dealer to get some professional opinions of there grades. I would never sell to them, probably I'll hold on to all my coins anyhow, I figure they would, "long term" go up in value. Your Barber is one beautiful coin, I would love to know what a dealer or coin grader would say. I realize you never said you were going to sell it. I have been wondering for a long time now, just how much does PCGS or NGC charge for grading a coin???
Congrats on a great find, I'm so stuck on deer hunting right now I might not be MDing for a couple months, (ha, not true, I'm sure I'll manage to fit it in sometimes)

I take my MD in the woods to look for my empties. $ :laughing7:

That's a big ol coin

That has really nice detail, congrats!

That signified a New Orleans mint

I grade as a keeper. very nice coin. congratulations! Can't wait till I find my first one.

"The 1902 O minted Barber Half dollar is the most valuable of the 1902 Barbers by $1000. At just under 4 thousand dollars in great condition this coin would be the cornerstone to any collectors stash. :)"
In Very Fine cond.Which yours looks to be,it could be worth up to $6600!!!

The "O" mint mark is New Orleans..
I cheeted and googled it..

Not sure where you found that info. I saw 38$ for fine condition up to 300 if XF

I don't think this one would grade any higher than fine although I could be wrong. I would be the first to say that I don't think I'm very good at trying to place a grade on a coin but it has been getting a little easier for me with practice. Based on updated coin values from a issue of a coin magazine I would guess that this coin may be worth $50 to $65 probably closer to right around 50 but like I said I could be wrong. Here are a couple of other pics of the coin. The letters in liberty are there but I don't think they are quite stron enough to get the coin past fine.

I scan my coins on a scanner printer, I seem to get better even detail than with a camera.

Now THAT is a pretty darned good tip, I'll give it a try myself!

Thanks!
