Re: 1921 GEORGIVS V REX ET IND IMR 50 cents canada is it true? value

Your '102' image looks like it reads 1911.
There is one sure method to differentiate the 1911 from the 1921 (other than the date). The 1911 is composed of 0.925 silver while the 1921 is composed of 0.800 silver. A few years ago, the 1911 was valued at $8.00 in VG-8 condition; the 1921 was valued at over $10,000 in VG-8--there being only 75 to 100 known.

Re: 1921 GEORGIVS V REX ET IND IMR 50 cents canada is it true? value

Sorry... It is a 1911`... Canada had only One year without Dei Gra.."by the grace of God" [we call it a 'Godless' coin] And that is the year 1911. There was quite an outcry about it and it was reinstated in 1912

Sorry

but still a great find

One other thing... Canadian silver coins were 925 silver up to and including 1936... After that point, the silver content was reduced to 800.

Cheers

If only it was a 21! The third digit is clearly squared at the bottom making it a "1". A 1921 50 cents would be off the charts for a find.

In the first picture it looks like 1911, and in the close ups it looks like 1921 :icon_scratch:

This is the picture that tells the story. The rest is scrapes and illusion.

As others have said the metal content would have to be tested. It is not uncommon to find fakes of such, with a smeared one or even metal added to make a 2 and so on. A reputable coin appraisal company will have to be used.
There is no way to say for sure on a board with just photos.

Re: 1921 GEORGIVS V REX ET IND IMP 50 cents "IMPORTANT UPDATES"!!!

on the off chance it is a 1921 --I'd have it checked out --its in rough shape true but with them being so rare if it is one --it could be worth a lot --but most likely its not one ----

-----here is why --- I think that.

to me sorry to say sadly it looks to be the "godless" 1911 issue *--if there is not "dei gra." in the motto --its the 1911 coin -- there was big flap about the removal of "by the grace of god" -- dei gra. in 1911 --it was replaced on the coins in 1912

at one time some one might have altered the coins 1911 date to pass it off for a for a "rare" 1921 but with the "godless" 1911 coin front * any wize coin person would know its bogus

Does anyone know of a coin expert near Illinois or Missouri or any adjoining state. It's not that I don't respect all folks on here, it's just such a huge chance it could be real. From here and everyone around here it looks like a 2 but, to know for sure would be excellent. If any of you are close I could bring it for inspection.

Re: 1921 GEORGIVS V REX ET IND IMP 50 cents "IMPORTANT UPDATES"!!!

harold --it might be a "altered" 2 -- check for yourself on line * the 1911 candain 1/2 dollar has no "dei gra." in its motto --your coin also does not * --that should be the tip off to you that its either (A ) a 1911 coin that just looks like a 2 --OR-- (B) a 1911 coin that someone tried to "fake" into a 1921 by altering the 1 to look like a "2"

the "godless" 1911 front front gives it away however as to what it really is -- a real 1921 would have the words "dei gra" on the front

Re: 1921 GEORGIVS V REX ET IND IMP 50 cents "IMPORTANT UPDATES"!!!

As Bartholome indicated above (in topic #7), and as I'll emphasize here, the legends of the two dates are different: The legend on the 1911 coin reads GEORGIVS REX (to the left of the king) whereas the legend on the 1921 reads: GEORGIVS DEL GRA (to the left of the king). Clearly, this coin has the legend of the 1911 coin.
Don.....
(as Ivan just mentioned above--now I see.)
