I had the exact same coin an posted it on here. It was deemed PMD. My guess is this is happening from a coin counter.

Whether it's PMD or not, I'd put it up on ebay. Don't say it's an error, don't say it's PMD, just list it for what it is, a penny with an interesting date, and let the bids go where they may.

Test weigh it. Coppers were only up to 1981, plus some 1982. A 1986 would be a zinc at 2.5g; coppers are 3.11
 

Come on guys! This is a 1981 that the 1 took a hit! Let's not over think this. It was probably on the end of a roll at one time and the part of the machine that crimps the roll hit the one. Please don't listen to people that say put it on eBay! That's not what collecting is about. Spend it already!
 

Because copper bends easily. It hasn't broken off, it was pushed over.
 

Thanks for the input. Wanted to make sure I wasn't sitting on a copper 86. :P
