Open to input, but think I have a decent example. First pic is a standard 84, 2nd is the double ear for comparison...

Nice find. I believe I've found a 43 or 44 penny and it's steel. Don't know a lot about money except that I like to spend it. Congrats.
 
Looking at the picture I have to say that's not it. Your coin appears to be a stain.

Appreciate the input. After reading this I dabbed it gently with a damp cloth and then VERY gently moved a toothpick along to see if there was anything, could feel a "ridge" there, so unless its a very opportune hit or something, I don't think its a stain...
 
It doesn't look like the doubled ear. Compare it to a pic of the real deal. It has to look exactly the same.

No problem man, appreciate the insight of both you and Enamel! Must've just been damage to the coin at some point then.
