1997D Cent - Multiple Mint Errors?

I don't know errors. I happened to glance into the reject bin of my homemade copper separator. This 1997D stood out like a sore thumb. It has a toning I have never seen on a cent before. The picture is horribly inaccurate for color, but I don't see any hint of copper.

Could it be missing its clad layer and it is just zinc that has toned a bit? Or, is it post-mint chemical damage? It also seems to be a defective planchet.

I will take it to the local guy this coming week some time and get the answer.

Post-mint damage. The zincolns are only copper plated for appearances. Once the copper layer is breached you have the zinc core. What you have is corrosion on the zinc core.

Per the expert, the coin has been plated.
It goes into the novelty pile.
