My bank called me to let me know that they had a bag of halves off their counter, it had been sent to the courier or to the main branch or something and was returned. I grabbed it today and almost let out whoop - can't wait to start going through it!

This coin roll hunting doesn't happen up here.
The banks charge for coinage.
So there's no upside to going in and getting these amounts of coins.
Would have to order them first.
Then it won't be customer rolls either.
I wonder when US banks will do the same?
As this is a cost to them, in many ways.

Yes it is a cost for now they are happy to do it for customers but it is slowly changing

That's why I exchange instead of buying. That way there is no cost to the bank because they have the same inventory when I leave that they had when I arrived. The only downside is that I can't get halves - except when the head teller accidentally ordered $2000 in halves instead of quarters. She offered to let me buy them, go through them, and return them, then she returned them to Loomis the next week and got her quarters. I returned them loose, bagged in $1000 increments to make it easier for her to return them. I got 5 40% (all 1968D) and 30 90%.
