I have been watching this bag at my pickup bank for over a year now. They told me there were $200 worth of halves until it filled up, I got tired of waiting and took in $400 of halves to fill the bag and then make sure they would let me buy it.
It actually took $330 to fill so I am getting $670 worth of unsearched coins.
I always check for "enders" or in this case "plastics" I see 4 40% and 1 90% 1964! So it will not be a skunk and is liable to be a good bag!

Also I see a couple pennies a quarter and a nickel

I will update when finished searching

Wow, I feel ridiculous asking, but I don’t understand. “I have been watching this bag at my pickup bank…” what does that mean? How do I watch a bag at my bank? I never heard of this. Thanks and good luck🍀

Some banks that have counters will tell you when you ask.

A few models that are in lobbies for customer access have visible indicators as to volume of coin in each bag. I have seen everything from rotary dial, similar to my 100+ year old Klopp, to bulb lights, LCDs, and more modern LEDS. The newest models have flat screens with continuous data display, and several menu functions.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Time for more coffee.

I would ask the tellers every month or so as to how full the bag was.

so far 23 40% and 11 90% including 6 Kennedy 4 Franklins and 1 Walker

Wow! I’m still lost. NO idea what you mean. I guess I’m banking in Bug-Tussle. We have NO bags in the lobbies. What is a Klopp? Are you time travelers? I’ve been going to banks since 1963 from Columbus Junction to Boston (all sizes) and I can’t imagine what you mean. Sorry, just leave me out; I’ll listen quietly: na-noo na-noo.

If I go into any bank within 100 miles and ask, “how full is the bag” they’d look at me like I just had a stroke. I’m not playing. This has me stumped. I think of Rip VanWinkle, after a 40 year nap.

When we are talking about bags we are talking about "how full the coin counter is" for a certain denomination. The counter, like a coinstar counter, takes all denominations and I want to know how many coins are in the half dollar bag so I have an idea how many months it will take to fill the bag.
If your bank has a coin counter for the public or depositors you can ask one of the tellers if they can tell you how full any of the bags are, if you have a good relationship with the bank.
At the same time if they won't sell you the full bags off the machine it doesn't make any difference how full it is as it is going to the armored car company.
Does that help?

Klopp was, and still may be, a manufacturer of coin counters, coin sorters, and other such things.

The remainder of my post is descriptive of the various indicators coin counters have had over the decades.

Ben probably answered your question much better than I did, however.

Interesting topic regarding bags, and I was with Blackfoot doing the noddle scratch.
Then it got really confusing when another explanation was put forth.

Thanks for the explanation Ben on what it's all about.

Up here we just don't do coin rolls/bags. Heck now as it has been for at least 15 yrs most of the banks will charge extra for change.
It seems that this will come to past with banks in the USA as they figure it out that it costs money to flip change.

Yes. Thank you. I was really lost. I appreciate the explanation.

Ben, you're lucky to have a bank willing to sell you the bag! I posted a bit ago about one of my regular banks pulling a very old half bag and me seeing it full of silver and not being able to purchase it, a dagger through a CRHer's heart.

I'd be curious if the bag ends up over/under the $1000 mark once you re-deposit the clad, let us know!

i used to have 2 banks that would sell bags but down to 1 now.

I should have kept the coins from the bag separate but I had about $450 of halves from the previous boxes, so far have returned $313 of the bag, have 3 coffee cans filled ready to take back to the bank, the small coffee cans hold about $170 more or less so about $800 to return and $200 to still go through, I should have done them separately but even if it was $20 short I won't complain not when I am at 12 90% (6 1964, 5 Franklins 1 Walker) and 30 40% so far. I would never complain to the bank, not when I am getting a sort of bonanza

Bags that aren't dumps are the best! Much better chance for silver. Looks like yours is turning out to be a good one!

Very nice when a bank will let you have them. They do take a long time to fill though. I've usually just done what you did too, if it's got a good amount I'll just fill the rest and take it. $670 is a good one! If only more banks would let you take them. Grats!
